Today we made our Gibbon hand puppets (dying calico black is alot harder than it would seem so we ended up with blue Gibbons). Their cheeks were made with cotton wool glued to a felt, gray face and a black marker was used for their nostrils and mouth.
We decided to show our puppets off to the Zoo's real Gibbons. Even with our fancy puppets, they seemed more interested in the celery and lettuce they were eating! Oh well, a little enrichment for them and alot of fun for us!

ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment about the Gibbon and what a great question. A gibbon is a type of Ape. This means that it doesn't have a tail. This animal also 'pair-bonds' which means that they stay in love with each other forever. We have a pair here at Melbourne Zoo called Tieu ("Choy" - male) and Vong ("Vang" - female). I have decided to add a real picture of a white-cheeked gibbon so that you can see what our puppet gibbons were meant to look like! I hope you are all having lots and lots of fun in Prep M.
