The highlight of our first week was possible because of 'Ando' one of our amazing invertebrate zoo keepers who has worked at Melbourne zoo for 36 years! He very generously organised a Lemon tree with at least 20 Orchard Butterfly caterpillars on it, all at different stages of their life cycle. He even pinned leaves from another tree that had eggs on them so that the kids could see how our really fat caterpillars started their journey. We were even lucky enough to see how two fat caterpillars had made their silky chrysalises.
What great fun the kids had with their magnifying glasses exploring our Lemon tree!
